I recently directed a music video for the Black Angels “An Occurrence at 4507 South Third Street”
We only had a month to execute this project. I opted to use graphite on 3x5 cards to create the dense swampy atmosphere, making it quite a feat to accomplish in such a limited time. Luckily I had some great people helping out who were up for the challenge.
Concept/Direction by Rose Stark (with some help from Ambrose Bierce)
Produced and Edited by Richard O’Connor
Animation by Taisiya Zaretskaya and Casey Drogin
The video had it’s exclusive release at Q magazine last week.
Black Angels Designs
These are some of my original style frames for the Black Angels “Occurrence at 4507 South Third Street” video.
A year ago today I began my 3 month stay at the Gamli Skoli Art house in Hrisey, Iceland. These are three illustrations I created during my stay. All are based on passages from the great Icelandic novel “Independent People” by Halldor Laxness.
A sneak preview of my new(est) project “Heila Ormur” Started at my residency at the Gamli Skoli Art House in Hrisey, Iceland.
After a few months hiatus It’s on its way…
Ace and Son made this for Sesame Street in Spring 2013. I did all the design and compositing.
Taking things in a new direction for Vanessa Roth’s doc on education in Texas. i’m working up a design and some boards for a segment on population increase in Texas.
Build America Mutual
This is a commercial spot I designed and animated with Fly Communications for Build America Mutual. The initial designs were drawn out in photoshop, but all the chalkboard animation was done in camera on a 4x6 blackboard over 2 very long days of shooting. Fortunately Fly took care of animating the children.
Spent the day working on some Rodchenko inspired designs for the motion graphics segments on a new doc project we’re working on with Vanessa Roth.
Ray and Roy
I’m back at work for Ace and Son. Working on style frames for some segments in a documentary on the collaboration between Ray Manzarek and Roy Rogers. Inspiration for the style comes from Terry Gilliam’s Monty Python animated segments.
A couple of little graphite drawings I did at Gamli Skoli inspired by Icelandic folklore
My New Project!
These are some stills from a new film I started working on at the Gamli Skoli artists residency in Iceland. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to finish it there but will be wrapping it up in the next few months.
I still have a ways to go fine tuning some of the imagery from my microscope for use in the film.
The Honor Code
I did the design, animation and painting in this film, which is playing today at the Ottawa International Animation Festival!
